Prepared for the Town of Courtland, Virginia | Prepared by The Addison Group

Total investment: $5,000, including first-year website hosting

Discover Courtland and take part in its future

Courtland’s historic Main Street, museums, courthouse, arts community, agricultural heritage, and connection to the Nottoway River give the town a story worth sharing. As Courtland begins its work with Virginia’s Exploring Main Street program, it needs a website that introduces that story and invites people to help shape what comes next.

The Addison Group will create a beautifully welcoming, easy-to-use website for residents, visitors, businesses, property owners, and volunteers. It will give Courtland a strong starting point now and room to share new projects and progress over time.

What’s included

Strategy and website copy

We’ll begin with a planning session to confirm the website’s goals, audiences, content, and approval process. Using the town meeting discussion and materials provided by Courtland, we’ll develop the site structure and write the copy for up to six core pages. We’ll confirm the final page names and content with Courtland before design begins.

Design and development

We’ll design and build a website that works well on mobile devices, tablets, and computers. Its visual direction will reflect Courtland’s historic character while making information clear and easy to find. The website will include:

  • Clear navigation and calls to action

  • An initial directory of up to 20 businesses and attractions using information supplied or approved by Courtland

  • Contact, volunteer interest, and business inquiry forms

  • An email signup connected to an account designated by Courtland

  • Links to partner organizations and social media

  • Search engine page titles and descriptions

  • Website traffic analytics

  • A structure that lets Courtland add news, events, and listings as the program grows

Launch and training

Before launch, we’ll review the website on common screen sizes, test its links and forms, complete agreed revisions, connect the approved domain, and publish it. We’ll also provide one training session and a brief guide for the person or team responsible for routine updates.

First-year hosting

The project price includes the website platform and hosting for the first 12 months after launch, along with initial setup and launch support. We’ll confirm the selected platform and its expected renewal cost with Courtland before work begins. The website account will be managed by Courtland or its designated Main Street organization. Domain registration and/or renewal is billed separately at cost.

Project timeline

We anticipate launching the website by the end of October, provided Courtland supplies the needed materials and feedback on schedule.

Investment

Investment and Payment Schedule — The total investment for strategy, copywriting, design, development, the initial business and attractions directory, forms, training, launch, and first-year hosting is $5,000. The Addison Group understands that Courtland expects to receive project funding in November. To help the Main Street effort move forward, we will begin work in good faith and develop the website through approval for launch without an upfront payment. The full $5,000 will be due when Courtland receives those funds. We will coordinate the launch date with Courtland as the website nears completion. This will also allow us to create personalized email addresses using the new domain name.

Ongoing posting, directory maintenance, photography, video, advertising, and substantial new features can be scoped separately as Courtland’s needs develop.

What we’ll need from Courtland

Courtland will designate one primary contact to gather feedback and approve the work. We’ll also need available logos and photographs, videos, approved organizational details, domain access, and the information Courtland wants included in its initial business and attraction directory. We understand that historiccourtland.com has already been purchased. We will need access to the domain account to connect it to the new website. We also recommend transferring the domain to the website’s account so Courtland can manage both in one place. We will handle the transfer at no additional service charge. Any domain renewal fees will be included in the annual hosting renewal.

Let’s give Courtland’s next chapter a home

This new website will make Courtland’s Main Street effort visible, understandable, and open to participation. It will help people discover what is already here while providing a place to share the work ahead.
